Heritage Ajibola, a 100-level female student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun state, is said to have died in a terrible occurrence on Wednesday afternoon, February 9, 2022, in Beaver Hostel, Maintenance Hostels.
According to an Instablog9ja article, Heritage died by accident after falling into a sewage tank at one of the school’s hostels.
The victim was a student in the Department of Linguistics and African Languages.
“This tragedy is really tragic,” said Ogunperi Taofeek Olalekan, president of the students’ union, who confirmed her death in a statement. The Union seethes for her. May her soul find peace. May God grant her family, friends, and classmates the strength to face this unrepairable loss.
It should be highlighted that Heritage’s death could have been avoided if the soakaway system had been properly designed and protected. It is unfortunate that this has occurred despite the large sums of money paid for rent by students.
The hostel management must answer for the death of Heritage. The Union is promptly demanding justice for Heritage in order to prevent a recurrence of the tragedy. “
