A 60-year-old father, his wife, and five children, including a four-month-old infant, were killed in a fire that ripped through their Gomoa Budumburam home in the Central Region.
Robert Assan Donkoh has been recognized as the suspect. Neighbors told Citi News that they heard the victims shouting for aid from their apartments about 5 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022.
The source of the fire is unknown, according to fire authorities, but an inquiry into the event will begin immediately. Patrick Bawa, Assistant Divisional Officer for the Gomoa Budumburam Fire Station, told Citi News that they got a distress call at 6:35 a.m., and a crew reached the scene of the fire by 6:40 a.m.
“The fire was blazing fiercely, and our guys were able to extinguish it within a few minutes, and it was then that we discovered the family of seven was all dead in the wreckage.”
We’re still investigating and at the crime site, and we’ve requested the cops to keep the area safe for us. “We’ll be returning for more investigations,” he stated.
He urged the people to install fire safety measures such as smoke detectors, fire alarms, and fire extinguishers to aid in firefighting. “It would have sounded for the man to hear if the building had smoke detectors or fire alarm systems.”
The entire structure lacked a fire extinguisher or detector. “We urge the general people to install fire extinguishers and smoke detectors in their houses so that they can get alarm fire alerts,” he said.
