Rev. Frimpong-Manso claims that Christians are responsible for at least 70% of all corruption in Ghana.

The Church must play an important role in battling corruption in the country, and it must do it aggressively, beginning from within.

Reverend Professor Paul Frimpong-Manso, President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, has this stance (GPCC).

Without giving any scientific evidence, the top priest implied that, contrary to the teachings of the faith, Christians were complicit in the majority of high-level public sector misconduct year in and year out.

“How do we defend the Christian religion when Christians, who are supposed to be the Light and Salt of the world, steal 70% of all cash illegally siphoned from the public purse every year?”

“How can the Church, as the Body of Christ, defend the Christian faith in these last days in a morally degenerating and corrupt world where a lack of fear of God and a passion for money is reaching a tipping point?” he wondered.

According to a Ghana News Agency article, Rev. Prof. Frimpong-Manso noted that defending the Christian religion goes beyond “simple rhetoric, sloganeering, condemnation, and militancy.”

He characterized corruption as a threat to the country’s democracy, stability, and development endeavors, and urged the Church to serve as a bulwark against financial misconduct.

Defending the Christian faith will require not only the Church and every Christian to speak out against the canker of corruption in society, but also to hold ourselves accountable first, by teaching and disciplining the corrupt public officers and private businesspersons in our churches to eschew corruption and petty stealing,” he said.

He asked pastors and church leaders not to just glorify people who provided large numbers of tithes, offerings, and other monies to support God’s work, but to investigate and be certain of how those persons got such funds, according to the GNA report.
