Rawlings’ Last Wish; “Burn Me And Sprinkle My Ashes In Achimota Forest”
It has been revealed that the late former president Jerry John Rawlings, whiles alive, wanted his remains to be cremated when he dies.
Reports say he wanted his body to be burnt and the ashes scattered in the Achimota Forest, where the Achimota School [his alma matter] is located.
The reason being, he wanted his remains back in the Achimota Forest to be used as a sort of fertilizer to enable plants there to grow well. Rawlings is reported to have made this demand in 2016 in an interview with the editorial board of Achimota School’s magazine.
“Since I love the Achimota forest, I am looking forward to being cremated and my ashes brought to the forest and used to plant a few trees,” he is reported to have said when asked what he misses about the school.
“Are you afraid my ghost will be appearing?” He quizzed. “Let people believe; that way, it will help preserve the forest”.
