Former President Rawlings’ State Burial scheduled for December 23rd
The family of JJ Rawlings and Ghanaians as a whole would bid a final farewell to its longest-serving leader on December 23, as it is the day set for his state burial.
The state’s burial of the former president who died at 73 would come off at the Independence Square in Accra that day which happens to be Wednesday.
Ambassador James Victor who is the Head of Funeral Planning Committee, Monday, in a press release said “The family is working in conjunction with the government on the finer details of the funeral ceremony and will communicate the arrangements in due course.”
Rawlings died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness but initial reports suggest he was treating COVID-19 at the Cardiothoracic Centre of the hospital.
His sudden death came three weeks after burying his 101-year-old mother, Victoria Agbotui.
