Police arrest man for using lady’s photos to scam people on Facebook
Nigerian police have detained a man in Kano who uses women’s photos to scam unwary victims on the Internet.
Using both male and female names, Musa L. Maje creates fake Facebook and Whatsapp profiles to scam his victims.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa issued a statement on Sunday detailing how the thief was brought to justice.
“One Zahra Mansur, 20, complained that she received phone calls from her associates that someone used her name, pictures, videos, created Facebook accounts to defr@ud people,” he said.
Haruna-Kiyawa claimed that after receiving the report, they acted quickly to have him detained.
Alleged profits of fraud were used to buy a Redmi Note 11 Pro mobile phone and other accessories that were found in the suspect’s possession.
“Also discovered from him were n%de pictures and videos in the mobile phone, and the sum of N70,000 in his possession,” he said. He noted that during an investigation, the suspect confessed to having specialised in using Social Media to create fake accounts to defraud the public.
“He further told police that he created a fake Facebook account bearing Zahra Mansur, used her pictures and videos and defrauded people without her consent.”
