Kwesi Boateng, better known in the industry as Akurugu Baba Yoba, has spoken out about his suffering as a result of being born different.
Akurugu, who has a facial deformity, claims that people forgot he was created in the image of God and mocked him throughout his infancy.
During his ‘Aggressive Interview,’ he told Kweku Manu that he is the only person in his family who was born unusual, and they believe he inherited the look from his paternal side.
He claims, however, that he was never introduced to his father and that all attempts to open up his family about his birth have been ineffective to date.
Akurugu highlighted some of the treatment he received, including being excluded from school and having no seat companion during his early school years.
“Everyone had buddies in school; they ate together and did everything together. But I was alone all by myself. People used to compare me to animals, and they never came close,” he lamented.
At home, the situation was no different.
He claimed that he was excluded from all community activities because he was referred to as a “weak frog.” Mr. Frog was his moniker, which he said he didn’t hear until he left his homeland of Asante Asaaman.
Residents blamed his mother for giving birth to a river deity in a village where such a thing had never been documented, according to Akurugu.
His romantic life was far from ideal. He described how he had terrible self-esteem and couldn’t even propose to his “crushes,” saying that despite his age, he had no lover while at Asaaman.
He said the trauma he had as a result of insults and curses drove him to Accra, where he had the opportunity to work in the Kumawood industry.
When questioned if he confronts a similar hardship in Accra, Akurugu said he has now been accepted because of his celebrity and the little money he has made.
Currently, Akurugu can brag about a string of female encounters. He described himself as curvy and light-skinned. In other words, a lady who can compensate for his physical flaws while also complimenting him.
He even taunted that he is the most attractive man in his own universe and that his eyes are romantic rather than bulging as portrayed.
