Nigerian woman returns $36,000 she found in a couch she ordered online
A Nigerian woman in the United States has returned the $36,000 she discovered inside the couch she ordered online.
Vicky Umodu had just moved into her new home and was shopping through Craigslist for furniture when she came across some pieces that someone was giving away for free.
On May 18, she and her 29-year-old son, Oly Umodu, had gathered the free furniture and brought it into their living room.
As she was placing the upholstered cushion on an expansive, cream-colored armchair, Vicky Umodu stated she sensed something peculiar. The seat cushion appeared to be out of place.
The cushion was loaded with bank deposit envelopes and manila clasp envelopes full with cash, according to the report.
She noticed that most of them had dollar values scrawled on them, as if someone was keeping track of what was nestled inside. In total, Umodu found more than $36,000 in cash within the barrel-backed chair with a scalloped design that she had picked up for free.
“It was a lot of money. I said, ‘Maybe it’s a gimmick.’ I said, ‘Let me call them,’” Umodu said to herself. She notified the family, offering to return the sum, who then rewarded her generosity.
