According to information received by this source, girls between the ages of 13 and 15 are now engaged in prostitution in Sekondi, Ghana’s Western Region.
This portal has found that young girls as young as eleven years old are actively participating in commercial sex work at the Sekondi Railway Station.
This behavior, according to several residents in the railway region, is intolerable, and something must be done to solve the community’s prostitution problem.
They further alleged that the act is growing in popularity in the community and that the majority of the village’s girls are participating in it since it is profitable.
STMA’s Public Relations Officer, John Last, told Skyy Power FM’s Kojo Brace that it’s unfortunate that such a situation has arisen in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
The Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) is aware of the issue and is working to ensure that these young ladies cease abusing each other and are removed from the neighborhood.
He also indicated that because of the Market Circle merchants’ relocation, they have not given much attention to the situation, but that once they are completed, the railway station where the girls are located would be demolished and transformed into a market.
He went on to explain that they have information on another group of adolescent ladies engaged in commercial sex activity in Takoradi Kokompe and other sections of the Metropolis. He indicated that when they begin their efforts, they would clean all of these sites.
“These locations have been prepared and are part of the exercise we’ll be performing,” he stated. The process comprises sending security agents to specific places, apprehending perpetrators, and ensuring that their structures are dismantled.”
