“My husband left me because my family didn’t attend his father’s funeral”- Ghanaian lady reveals
German-based Ghanaian Antoinette Owusu revealed that her ex-husband divorced her because she and her family didn’t attend his father’s funeral.
In an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa, Antoinette disclosed that her family had not given the expected assistance for the funeral rituals of her father-in-law, and that his ex-family wife’s had advised him to get a divorce.
Tradition dictated that their father’s family should have formally informed her family of his passing. But since they didn’t, Antoinette’s relatives figured they weren’t wanted at the funeral.
“My father is a chief, so these things are very important. If you don’t invite them, they can’t come. Even during the one-week observation, they didn’t tell my family about it, but I talked them into attending it.
Miss Owusu had to miss the funeral due to commitments to her family. Antoinette acknowledged that their marriage was not perfect, but she believes that he really wanted a divorce and merely used their problematic marriage as an excuse.
“For almost ten months, he denied me sex. Nothing happened before that. He vacated the bedroom because he didn’t want more kids. We only have a child together, but he has two with another woman,” Antoinette added.
