“My dream was to be a Doctor, so when I couldn’t I made sure my daughter became one”- David Dontoh
David Dontoh, a legendary Ghanaian actor, has disclosed that his aim has always been to be a doctor, which he has achieved via his efforts over the years.
The actor, who spoke at YFm’s Y-Leadership series, stated that his career has taught him that he is not only an actor, but also a doctor, a lawyer, and a teacher.
He claims it’s because acting allows him to “heal, teach, and preach the gospel.”
Dontoh said about the impact of acting: “You must transform human beings in so many ways, you must bring happiness to people, you must bring a lot of thinking to people and let them understand that this life is transient and they have to make the best of it at any point in time that they find themselves”
Earlier in his career, the actor claimed he was hell-bent on realizing his doctor goal, but he gave up when he realized he was healing others through his work as an actor.
Fortunately for him, the actor claims that his daughter has since gone on to become a doctor, allowing him to realize his ambition.
Dontoh went on to offer career advise to aspiring actors.
“If you want to be any professional, know that any presentation you do is public speaking which you learn as an actor so a lot of people talk to me and they marvel at the fact that I’m an actor yet I know so much about politics or geography, history, culture and a whole lot and I tell them that it is thanks to my upbringing because all-round reading was a part of the culture in the home” he said.
