“My 11 years old daughter is in love with another girl in her class”- Wanlov speaks on his support for LGBTQ+
Ghanaian musician and social activist Wanlov has spoken out about his daughter’s crush on another girl, saying that he supports her right to love whomever she chooses, regardless of gender, and that he sees nothing wrong with it.
In a recent interview on the Talkertainment show with GhanaWeb’s Doreen Abanema Abayaa, Wanlov talked about a variety of topics, including his experiences with and viewpoints on the LGBTQ+ community.
Wanlov revealed that his daughter’s mother had told him about her daughter’s crush on another girl during the conversation, and he expressed his complete acceptance of the circumstance.
He stated, “I have a daughter who is currently infatuated with another girl. I don’t see anything wrong with that. She likes this girl, and that’s what her mother told me. She is eleven.”
Wanlov’s opinions on his daughter’s circumstances are representative of his more general viewpoints on the LGBTQ+ community.
He pointed out that the term “queer” is frequently used as an all-encompassing term to refer to people who identify as LGBTQ+, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and other identities.
Wanlov’s remarks occur at a time when Ghana’s debate over LGBTQ+ rights is heated. The LGBTQ+ community experiences significant discrimination and harassment due to the country’s strict laws that criminalize same-sex relationships.
Despite this, there is a growing group of activists and advocates working to advance the rights and acceptance of Ghana’s LGBTQ+ community.
Wanlov is one of the voices calling for change, and his encouragement of his daughter’s crush on a different woman sends a strong message about the value of accepting and upholding people’s freedom to love whomever they choose.
