“A dead Michael Jackson is still making money but I’ve nothing” – Appietus laments

Appietus has stated that the poor systems inside the Ghanaian music industry are the reason he has not been able to profit from his creative works.

The Ace producer made an analogy between his current predicament and that of artist in the United States, where the system is fully operating, claiming that even after Michael Jackson’s death, his music continues to generate income.

“On the African continent, I’m one of the guys with big hits, but the system doesn’t help me. The royalty system, the way the music industry works, none of that helps me. When we were making hits and having fun, we didn’t think it would affect us in the future, but it does.

“When Michael Jackson died a while ago, he made $4 million in royalties from people streaming his music, even though he was dead,” he said in an interview on Class FM.

“The system is working, so if you’re not there, your family will still enjoy. I pray that our system will work,” Appietus continued. “We don’t have to start from scratch. People are already doing it. The question is how they did it.” We need a template, so we make one. It won’t make any difference because it’s still music…”
