Ama Ghana, a 64-year-old midwife who has helped save lives in her village by delivering over 40 infants following instructions she got in a dream, has revealed her experience.
Ama Ghana, who was born in 1957 and lives in Sekondi-Takoradi in Ghana’s Western Region, has been crucial in child care delivery despite having no official schooling in the profession.
Ama Ghana claimed in an interview with ace radio personality Jessica Opare-Saforo that she has lost track of the number of children she has assisted in the delivery of.
When asked if she is one of the women in the town who is called upon to deliver babies, she replied:
“I deliver babies for pregnant women who don’t make it to the hospital. When I arrive, I prepare the babies so their mothers can take them to the hospital. In my entire community, I’m the only one who delivers pregnant women” she said, claiming ”all the midwives have passed away.
Ama Ghana says it’s difficult for her to keep track of the numbers, but she’s assisted in the delivery of at least 40 babies with only one death.
All of the others are still alive.” Offering free childbirth she was born into a family of midwives and considers her natural talent for delivering babies to be a gift from God. As a result, she does not charge mothers in her community for her services.

”I ensure that they provide me with soap, antiseptics, and methylated spirit to sanitize my hands … If my sister’s daughter gives birth, there’s no way I can charge them for my services unless they want to give me a token themselves, “she said. Ama Ghana revealed the night she got to know that she was going to be a midwife.
