Simon John Pegg (born 14 February 1970 in Beckingham, England) is an English actor, comedian, screenwriter, and producer. In the United Kingdom, he rose to prominence as the co-creator of the Channel 4 sitcom Spaced (1999-2001), directed by Edgar Wright. He and Wright co-wrote the films Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007), and The World’s End (2013), collectively known as the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, in which Wright directed and Pegg co-starred with Nick Frost. Pegg and Frost also wrote and starred in the science fiction comedy Paul (2011).
Pegg is agnostic. On July 23, 2005, he married his long-term girlfriend, music industry publicist Maureen McCann, in Glasgow. They live in Hertfordshire’s Essendon. At his wedding, Nick Frost served as best man. Matilda is the couple’s only child (born 2009).
Pegg is close friends with Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin, and he appears in the video for Coldplay’s 2010 single “Christmas Lights” as a violin-playing Elvis impersonator. Pegg is the godfather of Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter Apple, along with Jonny Buckland. Martin, in turn, is the godfather to Pegg’s daughter. Pegg stated in a video interview with British GQ magazine in July 2018 that his daughter has sung backing vocals for Coldplay onstage at Glastonbury Festival. Joe, the son of actor and friend Martin Freeman, is also godfather to Pegg. Pegg’s parents and sister appeared briefly in Spaced, and his mother appeared in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
