Mzee Musa Hasahya, a man from Uganda who has 12 wives and 102 children, has sworn that he will never have any more children because he is having trouble managing such a large family.
The farmer, who is 67 years old, has given the women in his life instructions to take the pill now that they are of childbearing age.
Hasahya, who lives in Bugisa, Uganda, with his large family, is experiencing financial strain as a result of the rising cost of living in the city. He has 568 grandchildren all together, and he lives in a compound with a house that has 12 bedrooms.
In 1971, when he was only 16 years old, he tied the knot with Hanifa, who would become his first wife. Just two years later, she gave birth to a daughter, marking his first experience as a parent.
He asserts that he is able to tell the difference between his children and grandchildren, but that he is unable to recall each of their individual names.
He asserts that he had the ability to expand his family as both the chairman of the village and a successful businessman, so he made the decision to do so.
“I cannot tolerate bearing children anymore because of the limited resources. And on that note, I have advised all my wives of childbearing age to go for family planning.
I also discourage those who wish to marry more than four wives not to do so because things are not good,” he iterated.
“My income has become lower and lower over the years due to the rising cost of living and my family has become bigger and bigger,” he added.
“Because I was able to earn something, I decided to expand my family by marrying more women,” he emphasized.
“I ensured that hoes are provided for each of them to till the land and produce food enough to support the family since the soils are fertile.”
However, he is currently pleading with the government for assistance, stating that it is difficult for him to educate each of his children individually.
His family claims that despite the size of his brood, everyone gets along pretty well most of the time.
