In an interview, Nana Akwasi, a man from Asotwe who is 31 years old and is gay, discussed the reasons why he accepted his sexual orientation after traveling to Kumasi.
The man explained that he was staying with his family in Akyeresua, but because he acted as a female, his family members constantly insult him and did not have a close relationship with him. He said that this was because he pretended to be a woman. According to Nana Akwasi, the fact that members of his family treat him poorly is one of the main reasons he moved away from his hometown and settled in Kumasi.
After losing his job, he spent a few days living on the streets, and it was difficult for him to provide for himself. One day, he came across a wealthy man who made the decision to assist him.
He invites him to stay with him at his home, but the wealthy man surprises him by revealing that he is gay and wants to date him. Although the other man’s revelation took him by surprise, the other man assured him that he would become wealthy and that his family would accept him.
Nana Akwasi added that he came to the conclusion that he would not agree with this man and would instead become gay. However, the rich man has warned him that if he does this, he will renege on all of his promises to him and he will once again be homeless. He realized that turning down the offer would put him in a difficult financial situation, so he compromised and agreed to be gay.
Every time he slept with him, the man took good care of him and gave him money as a token of his appreciation. He was the only person in the house who could cook, and he performed all of the tasks that a woman would.
He later came to regret having agreed to let the wealthy man commit this act; as a result, he plotted and fled from the wealthy man’s house, and he was never seen again. Despite the fact that he chose not to start over, when he returned home but began to face a financial crisis, he found an older man who not only helped him open a shop in the Kejetia market but was also a gay and the two of them began a relationship.

This individual encourages young men to steer clear of anyone who makes them aware of the gay lifestyle on purpose.
