According to the Taizhou Evening News, she was meeting with a man known as Mr. Lui at a restaurant in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang.
According to reports, the man’s mother arranged the encounter after getting concerned about her son’s lackluster dating life.
The 29-year-old man agreed to pay for the supper in order to impress his date, not thinking that her entire extended family would be joining them.
When the man saw how many people the woman had brought, he abandoned her with the large $3,100 (Ghs18,000) bill, refusing to pay for her family member’s dinner.
The woman told local media that she wanted to put her date’s generosity to the test before committing to a relationship.
The woman’s story went viral on Weibo, where it received over 260 million views, with one social media user commenting, “Even an idiot would never bring 23 people to a date.”
