KNUST elects first ever Female SRC-President
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has achieved a significant milestone by electing its first-ever female President of the Students Representative Council (SRC).
Yvonne Osei Adobea, a third-year Sociology student, emerged victorious in the 71st year of the institution’s existence.
Adobea surpassed five male contenders to secure her win, garnering an impressive 8,282 votes compared to her closest competitor, Abraham Rockson, who received 4,568 votes.
Notably, this was Adobea’s second attempt at the position, having finished as the runner-up in the previous year’s election.
Adobea’s election coincides with the appointment of KNUST’s first female Vice Chancellor, Prof Rita Akosua Dickson.
The SRC general election took place on July 26, 2023, and Adobea’s victory has been met with widespread congratulations from the university community. Many have urged her to surpass the achievements of previous presidents.
