John Paintsil cries as he see Atsu’s lifeless body (Watch video)

Christian Atsu Twasam, a beloved football player and philanthropist in Ghana, is being laid to rest and given his final funeral rites today, March 17.
Atsu was survived by a lovely wife and three wonderful children (two boys and a girl).

Following his terrible death last month, Christian Atsu’s wife, Marie-Claire Rupio, paid an impassioned tribute to her late husband as he was laid to rest in Ghana.

Tragically, the Ghanaian international flight perished on February 6 in the catastrophic earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria.

After being missing for about two weeks, Atsu’s body was found in a collapsed structure and taken there for final rites.

Rupio said in her obituary that her husband’s love had taken a piece of her with him.

The wife of Atsu said she had written a eulogy for her three children’s father as well as for her husband.

At his funeral today (March 17), this was recited aloud.

The last time the former Chelsea and Newcastle United player took part in a game was when his team, Hatayspor, faced Kasimpasa in Turkey.

Just hours before the catastrophe, Atsu scored the game-winning goal from a late free kick. For the Ghana Black Stars, he made 65 appearances and scored nine goals.

John Paintsil, a former football player, was among those who paid tribute to him and broke down in tears.

Watch the touching scene. Players like John Paintsil and others were unable to control their sobs.
