I’ve been receiving death threats – Quiz Mistress, Dr. Elsie Kauffman speaks after 2021 NSMQ finals
Prof Elsie Effah Kaufmann, the Quiz Mistress of the National Science & Maths Quiz – an annual science and mathematics content-based national level quiz competition for senior high schools in Ghana – has claimed she is receiving death threats.
Dr. Elsie revealed on Kessben TV after the tense 2021 NSMQ Grand Finale held at KNUST Great Hall on Friday, November 26, 2021, that she had received threats from people, particularly on social media, threatening her not to be biased against their schools, which they believe have prepared sufficiently for the competition.
In response to the backlash on social media, the articulate Quiz Mistress stated that she receives people who come at her almost all of the time when she sits to moderate the educational program, particularly via comments.
She did, however, explain why she gave Prempeh College an advantage during the round in which each school had 15 seconds to solve a question that swept the internet during the finals.
“The quiz is guided by rules, which are clearly communicated to the contestants from each participating school,” she says, adding that if a mistake is discovered, the school has the right to raise concerns immediately, rather than after the program has concluded.
Elsie A. B. Effah Kaufmann is a Ghanaian academic and biomedical engineer, as well as the current host of the National Science and Maths Quiz. In 2006, Elsie Kaufmann took over as host of the show.
