Each of the fifty scholarships offered includes the following assistance throughout the duration of the 3.5-year program::

  • Complete financial coverage for tuition fees
  • An annual stipend of £25,150 (2024-25 rate) to support living expenses
  • A yearly consumables fund of £2,000 for the initial 3 years of study

Eligibility Criteria of President’s PhD Scholarships 2024-25

  • Candidates of any nationality are welcome to apply for the PhD program, provided they hold a first-class bachelor’s or master’s degree from the UK or its equivalent.

     

  • Stand-alone master’s degree holders must have, or be on track to achieve, a distinction in their relevant program to be considered for the PhD program.

     

  • For candidates with multiple stand-alone master’s degrees, at least one degree must have a distinction and be relevant to their proposed PhD program.

     

  • Eligibility for the program is contingent upon candidates contacting a supervisor and receiving confirmation of their assistance in research work.

     

  • Please note that only new PhD students are eligible to apply; candidates currently enrolled in a PhD program at Imperial College London are not eligible.

Other criteria

  • Talented candidates from Imperial College London, the UK, and around the globe are welcome to submit their applications. Nationality is not a limiting factor, although certain departments may face limitations in supporting international candidates.

     

  • Please note that the President’s PhD Scholarship is exclusively available for new PhD applications. Current registered Imperial PhD students are not eligible for consideration under this scheme.

Before you apply

  • You must have made contact with a supervisor in an academic department at Imperial College London who has agreed to supervise your research project.
  • Supervisors are limited to supervise one scholar at any time.

How to Apply for President’s PhD Scholarships in the UK 2024-25

  • The candidates are not required to submit separate applications for scholarships and admission.

     

  • Candidates are required to submit their admission applications online through the College’s Online Admissions System.

     

  • When crafting personal statement, you ensure that the first page reflects only personal interests, while the second page outlines  research proposal.

     

  • One must navigate to the funding section under the additional questions tab in order to apply for the scholarship.

     

  • It is crucial to carefully review and fulfill all the additional requirements specific to each department.

Review and selection

  • Candidates meeting or predicted to meet the eligibility criteria will be reviewed by the Department to which they have applied. Departments will select a shortlist of candidates to present to the College Selection Panel for consideration.
  • The final decision will be made by the College Selection Panel. The members of the panel are the Vice-Provost (Research), the Director of the Graduate School, and the Faculty Vice-Deans for Research. Imperial recognises excellence in all our Faculties and as such allows some offers to be made at Faculty level:
    1. A Faculty allocation stage will score and rank candidates in Departmental shortlists, making initial offers to the most promising candidates. Faculty Vice Deans present these candidates with justification for offers at the College Selection Panel.
    2. The College Selection Panel makes additional offers from a ring-fenced allocation to candidates that meet widening participation or other strategic alignment goals.

Imperial College London Scholarship Application Deadlines

This scholarship has three separate deadlines

  • 6 November 2023: Scholarship notification by the end of January 2024.
  • 8 January 2024: Scholarship notification by the end of March 2024.
  • 4 March 2024: Scholarship notification by the end of May 2023
