I’m not happy’ – 27-year-old Mobile Money vendor claims after attempting sῠicide at Dunkwa
Ahinta residents were busy preparing for the day’s activities when they heard a loud noise.
The first sound from Obeng Seth, a 27-year-old mobile money vendor, came from the Nkrumo’s unfinished estate structures.
Obeng’s initial attempt failed when the rope he used went loose.
Obeng tried to connect a wooden frame in the Nkrumo’s unfinished estate structure with the cloth he tore off his bedsheets, but Obeng failed.
Obeng fell loudly from the building’s first story to the ground. Residents of Ahinta heard Obeng’s unsuccessful suicide attempt, but no one took it seriously until an elderly mother alerted her children.
In seconds, the entire town was on its toes asking Obeng Seth to calm down.
Residents had alerted Dunkwa-on-Offin police about Obeng’s suicide plans.
Thanks to Nana Hemaa’s help, the cops talked to Obeng before he committed himself.
Obeng was escorted to the Dunkwa-on-Offin police station where he is being treated for his injuries. Obeng was detained for safety reasons, according to Corporal Jojo Marcus.
It’s for his sake. Arresting him will prevent him from making another suicide attempt, and we want to help him recover, the officer added after the arrest.
Obeng at the police station admitted to being fed up with life, which drove him to try suicide.
Everything I do backfires. My mobile money job has put me in over 5,000 debt, and nothing I do seems to help. Obeng Seth told the cops he wanted to die after being rescued.
Nana Hemaa, as she is known in the Ahinta village, asked her children to inspect the Nkrumo’s unfinished structure.
Nana Hemaa warned her children to keep an eye out for thieves returning to steal construction materials.
