IGP promises to investigate the death of Albert Donkor to ensure justice for him
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, has directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to examine the murder of a 28-year-old trader in Nkoranza, Bono East Region.
The IGP “spoke with the family [of the deceased] on the phone and has constituted a high-powered delegation led by COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Director-General/Administration to visit Nkoranza for further engagement with all stakeholders,” according to a press statement released by the Police on Tuesday.
The police have advised the public to refrain from making incorrect assumptions that could influence the investigation’s conclusion.
Albert Donkor, a second-hand shoe seller, and digital television installer are claimed to have been abducted from his Nkoranza South residence by armed officers in an unregistered car at 2 a.m. on April 24, 2022, as part of an anti-armed robbery operation.
Emmanuel Agyekum, the Nkoranza South MP, claimed Albert was assassinated four hours after being apprehended by armed police personnel.
The suspect’s body was taken to the Techiman Holy Family mortuary after he was murdered.
According to the police, since August 2021, as part of a comprehensive strategy to combat the threat of armed robbery, they have dispatched a special anti-robbery task force to all robbery-prone locations around the country.
