Ohemaa Mercy, a Ghanaian gospel singer, recalled playing hide and seek with her landlord since he could not pay her GH15 rent.
She says she normally goes at 4 a.m. while everyone is still sleeping and returns late at night when everyone, especially the landlord, is sound asleep.
Ohemaa Mercy stated to Afia Amankwa Tamkloe on Adom TV that her days as a pupil-teacher at St. Peters Anglican School in Koforidua, Eastern Region, were difficult.
“I was very devastated because I didn’t know where my rent money will come from. The man was always chasing me and because I didn’t have the money, I leave the house as early as 4:00 am and returned very late when there was nobody in sight,”
Ohemaa Mercy said she was embarrassed as a teacher. She had to flee from her debtor who had stormed the school demanding money.
“I had to deal with a lot of struggles at that point and I remember the day a blender seller came to the classroom to embarrass me over debt I owed and I had to run to the back of the building to weep bitterly.
Ohemaa Mercy stated she had unwavering faith in the power of God Almighty, and although circumstances had changed, she looks back with appreciation.
“I woke up at my usual 4:00 am in my quest to dodge the landlord amid prayer that morning. So while on my way, I came across this man who identified himself as a pastor and blessed me with a bundle of GH¢20 notes.”
