I was almost sacked for calling Mohammed Kudus to play for the Black Stars – Coach Kwesi Appiah makes shockingly reveals

Coach Kwesi Appiah, who used to be the trainer for the Blackstars, said that when he asked Mohammed Kudus to play for the Blackstars, he was very close to being fired.

Coach Kwesi Appiah said that some members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) thought it was unnecessary for him to ask Mohammed Kudus to play for the Black Stars, which could have cost him his job.

Some officials from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) allegedly threatened Coach Kwesi Appiah after he selected Kudus to play for the national squad.

This happened in November of 2019 when he extended an invitation to the young player to play for the country in the qualifying match for the African Cup of Nations against South Africa.

During the course of an in-depth interview that took place exclusively with Dan Kwaku Yeboah, Coach James Kwesi Appiah made the following statements:

“Not only [Mohammed] Kudus but some other young players. There were people who felt the young players didn’t deserve the Black Stars call-up,” 

“But for me, I had watched them and I believed them. I always told my players don’t prove to me, prove to Ghanaians. If you do well that’s for your own good.

“My job was on the line because I was warned that if I lost the match I will be sacked. I didn’t mind because I knew I was doing what was good for the country.”

Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus, whom these same GFA authorities didn’t want on the Black Stars team, emerged as Africa’s most spectacular player at the just-concluded FIFA World Cup.
