“I want 20% of your salary.” Father Sues Son, after selling his land to take care of his education.

A 73-year-old father has sued his own son, alleging that despite his wealth, his son is not taking proper care of him.

Gideon Kisira Cherowo, 73, claims he sold his plot of land to pay for his son’s education from kindergarten to graduation from the university, but the son is not taking care of him in his old age.

Each mount, he expects 20% of his son’s pay.  “I used all the resources I had to enable him to be in a good position so that he can help our family. I request 20% of his salary to be given to me as the father,” Mzee Cherowo appealed with the court.

Gideon Kisira Cherowo told the court in papers filed at Kitale High Court that his son was consumed by city life and left the old man to fend for himself.

Cherowo stated that the family was reliant on the son, who reportedly severed ties with them following his appointment to the city post.

“I have attempted numerous times, over a period of years, to get the support of my son, but to no avail. Cherowo testified in court that “he is the only one of my four children who is gainfully working.”

The 73-year-old provided in court the son’s younger brother as his withness who affirmed that his brother abandoned them years ago.

He pleaded with the court to hear his father’s appeal, stating that they had spent their whole wealth on schooling the defendant.

Meanwhile, in an interview with BBC on Friday, Kisira said they had ultimately arranged to have a meeting with his son, and it was their desire to handle the issue as a family.
