I used to pay school fees in dollars, but I can’t because of the current hardship – Waakye seller, Auntie Muni
Auntie Muni, a popular Accra waakye vendor, has expressed her great concern over the devastating impact of the prevailing economic issues on her company and the well-being of her family.
She expressed her sorrow, emphasizing how these difficulties have hampered her ability to support her loved ones, a responsibility she had previously successfully managed.
Auntie Muni presented a vivid picture of her business’s downfall during an appearance on Asaase Radio on September 13, 2023.
She fondly remembered a time when her food business thrived, but the recent economic challenges have dealt her a severe blow.
She cited the rapid increase in the pricing of vital food commodities as one of the primary causes of her difficulties.
Auntie Muni’s story is a sad reminder of the difficulties that not just she, but also other local food merchants, are currently facing.
The rising cost of vital ingredients has made it increasingly difficult for small firms to run profitably, throwing doubt on their capacity to provide for their families and keep their jobs.
As the economic downturn continues, the tenacity and determination of small-scale businesses like Auntie Muni are put to the test.
“It used to be good, but not anymore.” Things are quite pricey now, but they were nice in the past.
“Nowadays, you can’t take care of your children, but for me, I have taken care of my children, and I used to pay in dollars, but this time, no; it is not like the past,” she lamented.
