Police in Plateau State have apprehended Patience Solomon, who snatched her friend’s 10-month-old infant in Jos approximately a month ago and fled to the Ikorodu region of Lagos State.
Although Plateau State Police, who paraded the woman on Monday, September 4, said she was arrested, the woman, a mother of two, stated she turned herself in after realizing leaving Jos with the infant she claims she “loves very much” was wrong.
“I had no bad intention when I left with the baby, the mother of the baby is my friend, and I love the baby so much,” she says. I didn’t notify the mother since I knew she wouldn’t consent, so I had to take the kid with me.
While in Lagos, I was constantly calling, chatting, or doing video calls with the mother to show her how the baby was doing, but because it was widely circulated on social media that I had stolen the baby, I had to go to the police in Lagos, who directed me on what to do, so when I arrived in Jos, the police here picked me up at the park. I returned on my own and was not arrested.”
The mother of the newborn, who was spotted cradling her baby at the State Police headquarters, expressed her excitement at being reunited with her child.
“We live in the same compound and work in the same shop. She has been playing with the baby, but she did not notify me when she left with her.” When I pressed on her returning my baby, she said she just wanted to be with him. She took care of the baby, but I did not allow her to accompany her, and I am relieved to have my baby back.”
