After witnessing the Black Stars struggle against Morocco in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Kevin-Prince Boateng said that he misses Ghana (AFCON).
Ghana began the competition on a sad note, losing 1-0 to the Atlas Lions on Monday.
Boateng stated on Twitter that coach Milovan Rajevac should have called him for the tournament in response to the defeat.
“Ghana should have just called me. Next game, three points. Let’s go Black Stars,” the Hertha Berlin forward tweeted following the game.
Boateng’s post drew a lot of attention, with some Ghanaians even calling for him to return to the national squad.
A Twitter user remarked beneath the photo, “we miss you,” to which Boateng responded that he equally misses Ghana.
“I miss you, too,” the 34-year-old replied, accompanied by some emojis.
Despite having played for Germany as a teenager, the former AC Milan player switched allegiance to Ghana in 2010 and went on to participate in two World Cups with the Black Stars.
Boateng made 15 appearances for the Black Stars between 2010 and 2015, scoring two goals.
He played for Ghana in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, although his international career ended abruptly after the latter.
This came after a major rupture during the tournament in Brazil when Boateng was accused of insulting then-Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah.
The former Portsmouth and AC Milan player was later barred from playing for the national team and has not appeared for the Black Stars since.
