Salamatu from Agona Asaman explained why she locked her boyfriend in her room in the middle of the night.
According to the lady, she had a relationship with Prince many years ago, but when she became pregnant, he deliberately quarreled with her and kicked her out of the house, claiming that he should pass the pregnancy on to her ex-husband.
She found another place to live and found work in a chop bar to support herself, but when Prince begged her to accept him again because of their unborn child, she agreed and lived peacefully with Prince.
The lady stated that after she gave birth, the man visited her in the hospital, but when she informed him of the hospital bills, he promised to return and pay them. She waited two weeks for her boyfriend to return to the hospital to pay the hospital bills.
She ran into the man’s brother outside the hospital one morning and informed him of the bills. That brother later arrived to pay half of the bills, but he left the hospital without paying the remaining balance.
She has to beg the doctors to let her go home, but she promises to pay the bills later. Fortunately, they listened to her pleas and she was able to return home.
Her friend also assisted her by raising funds for her at their information center. She received Ghc300 and went to pay the remaining bills.
A few days later, Prince came to see her in the middle of the night, but because of the ordeal he caused her at the hospital, she decided to repay him by arresting him.
She locked him in her room and went to inform their community chairman of her intention to arrest him. The chairman and some elders sent him to their detention facility, where he was detained in one of their cells, but he escaped.
A year later, Prince and his father came pleading with her to reconcile and stay together to care for the child.
His father advised her not to arrest Prince as she had previously planned. Salamatu went on to say that she agreed with the elders’ advice and would allow Prince to visit her.
The most concerning aspect of her story is that Prince did not provide her with funds to care for the child. She later went to stay with him in Asaman in the hopes that he would change and perform his duties, but her boyfriend left for their hometown without returning or sending her money.
Salamatu stated that she cannot provide everything their child requires, so she wishes for her boyfriend to assist her in catering for their child.
