“I am building a legacy with my career”– Kofi Kinaata
Award-winning rapper Kofi Kinaata has said that he is using his profession in the music industry to produce something enduring that can be handed on to the subsequent generation of Ghanaian singers.
In an interview with Daily Graphic, Kofi Kinaata talked about his recent award at the EMY Awards Africa, which took place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International conference center.
The EMY Africa Awards scheme is not a music award, but winning Man of the Year Music is a major thing. It honors people who have done a lot, and for me to be among these huge names is a big deal,” said the rapper. “It recognizes outstanding accomplishments, and the fact that I am included among such towering figures is a tremendous honor for me. It means I am doing something good”
Kofi Kinaata elaborated that he was inspired to push himself farther after receiving the prize, rather than becoming relaxed. He revealed that he is pleased that he is doing music despite wanting to be a footballer when he was young, and he is doing everything he can to produce good music.
“I don’t just put out songs because I want to; I do it because I want my work to have an effect, which I’m glad I’ve been able to do so far. I’m glad that both young and old people like my songs,” he said.
“When I write a song, I always want to talk about something. For example, with “Confession,” I was just trying to get people to think about what happens when you drive drunk, but it became one of the most popular songs.”
“I don’t put out songs with the hope that they’ll be hits, but they all end up archiving,” Kofi Kinaata said. “I don’t believe in making controversial things to get attention for a song, even though I’m not against it. I’d rather make a good song and let it do the talking for me.”
