Yaw Tog: Prioritizing Music over College Education

Yaw Tog, the talented rapper from Ghana known for his Asaka style of Ghanaian Drill music, has made a bold statement regarding his future plans. In a recent interview with Kumasi’s Hello FM, the 20-year-old artist, born Thorsten Owusu Gyimah, revealed that he currently has no intentions of attending college.

Expressing his unique perspective, Yaw Tog firmly believes that solely pursuing a university education will not provide him with the means to sustain himself in life. “I am doing music, I am working at the moment. University won’t give me the financial stability I need,” he shared. With a well-thought-out strategy, Yaw Tog aims to generate income through his music before considering furthering his education. He acknowledges that enrolling in college now would place the burden of tuition fees on his parents, which he is unwilling to do at his current status.

Although his parents support him, Yaw Tog recognizes that he cannot rely on them entirely for financial assistance. He understands that pursuing a university education would add significant financial strain on his family, and he wants to avoid that.

Having attended Opoku Ware School, Yaw Tog achieved commendable grades in his subjects. He received B3s in English and Social Studies, with a C5 in Economics as the lowest rating among his elective subjects for the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). These excellent academic achievements could potentially secure him a spot at a university of his choice.

In conclusion, Yaw Tog’s decision to prioritize his music career over pursuing a college education sheds light on the challenges faced by aspiring artists in the pursuit of their dreams. While some may view a college degree as a necessary step towards success, Yaw Tog has chosen a different path, believing that he can carve his own way in the music industry. His determination and talent serve as a testament to his commitment to his craft, and only time will tell where this decision will lead him.
