Ghanaians are outraged by the GH500 registration fee for the Celebrity Lookalike Association, which is open to new members.
Robert Jnr., a resemblance of Ghanaian musician King Promise, claims that he and other celebrity lookalikes have formed the Four King’s Resemblance Association to formalize their operations.
The aspiring musician and his friends have attempted to capitalize on their likeness to the country’s renowned performers to market themselves and create their entertainment careers.
Ghanaians have reacted differently to their activities, with some supporting them and others denouncing them as talentless opportunists. Their detractors have advised them to seek actual employment rather than impersonate celebrities.
However, in an interview with Okay FM in Accra on Friday, April 14, 2023, Robert Jnr., who resembles famed musician, King Promise, dismissed demands for them to stop mimicking celebrities. Being a famous clone, he claims, is a critical source of cash for them.
“The job as a celebrity lookalike is till we die…Financially, things are very bad. It’s this lookalike work that I have done to feed myself since I finished high school,” he said.
The King Promise doppelganger hinted at the formation of the Four Kings Lookalike Association as part of attempts to professionalize their operations and create more income.
Robert Jnr. said that the organization was available to everybody for a GH500 registration fee.
“I want to clear the air and make everyone understand that when it comes to lookalike associations, we are unique. We are the Four Kings Lookalike Association. And, indeed, we do what kings do,” he said.
He went on to say that the organization would welcome members who did not resemble celebrities.
“Whether you resemble a celebrity or not, we can work something out. For example, if you want to be MzVee’s lookalike but don’t really look like her, don’t worry, I can buy you creams and clothes to make you look like here. And that is why the registration forms cost GH¢500,” he said.
