Apparently, the demolition exercise resulted in a chaotic situation in which police officers squared up against them amid gunfire.

However, Shiashie Drivers Association Vice-Chairman Jacob Taylor, when speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, claims the Okponglo chief gifted the land to them years ago.

They, therefore, were surprised to learn that the property had lately been sold for redevelopment into a shopping mall and that they would be evicted in this manner.

“We were set for work this morning when they stormed here and asked that we vacate the place but at the same time, the entrance was locked so we couldn’t even move out and were held hostage,” Jacob Taylor narrated.

Meanwhile, According to Taylor, they went to the chief to express their unhappiness, but he informed them that he was unaware of any sale.

He lamented their families’ futures are now in jeopardy since no plans have been made for them. According to him, “about 10 people have been detained and escorted to the East Legon Police station while others were manhandled.”
