A vehicle drove into a classroom building at Kasaka Secondary School in Kanoni Town Council, Gomba District, killing at least four students and injuring 20 more.

The event happened at 2:30 p.m. when the kids were in class.

Eve Namagembe (Senior Five), Hilda Asege (Senior Four), and John Bosco were among those slain (Senior Two).

The fourth victim was crushed beyond recognition, according to investigators, and the remains will be identified following DNA testing.

According to the school’s principal, Kefasi Katumba, the driver of the ill-fated Sinotruk truck initially struck the school entrance before slamming into the computer lab and Senior Four West classroom.

“The driver seems to have failed to negotiate the corner and thought the truck will stop if he hits the school gate.  Unfortunately, it just continued moving, crashing into the computer lab where it killed two students on spot and injured several others. The same truck moved ahead and rammed into the Senior Four West classroom where it also killed at least one student on spot and injured others,” he said.

According to Mr Katumba, Senior Two pupil John Bosco died upon arriving at one of the local clinics in Kanoni Town.

Cissy Nambejja, the school secretary, was in the computer lab with children and suffered damaged legs and wrists.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the deceased students. We share in their grief during this trying time. We pray that those injured get out of danger,” Katumba told this reporter on Tuesday.

Moreover, the school administration was compelled to send other children home until next Monday while they heal from the catastrophe.
