In a failed robbery attempt at the Adonteng Rural Bank branch in Abomosu, Atewa West District, Eastern Region, a suspected armed robber was shot dead.
The armed robber was killed as part of a robbery gang that attempted to rob the bank at 1:55 a.m. on September 17, 2021.
When the bank’s branch manager, Bernice Brago, recognized them, the men armed with pistols, all wearing face masks, exchanged bullets with the private security guard on duty.
After obtaining information, police went to the crime scene and discovered that the armed individuals had damaged part of the glass door leading to the bank hall as well as part of the window frame.
A crowbar and an empty BB cartridge were also discovered by police.
The officers searched the area and discovered a lifeless male body in a pool of blood. He was later identified as Annor Joseph, 34, an Abomosu local, who was discovered dead some 120 meters behind the bank, with his itel phone alongside him.
In his throat, a gunshot wound was discovered.
Inspector Francis Gomado, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, said the itel phone and the crowbar were retrieved as exhibits by police, while the deceased’s body was lodged at the Kibi Government Hospital mortuary for preservation pending an autopsy.
Following the establishment of the Anti-Armed Robbery Taskforce by Acting Inspector General of Police Dr.George Akuffo Dampare, armed robbery assaults in sections of the Eastern region have decreased.
