Court Approves Sacking of Teacher Who Made a Female Student Cook in His House

A school teacher has been fired after admitting to his manager that he had let a sick female student cook food in his home and take some of it to the dorm where she was staying.

The Employment and Labor Relations Court agreed with the decision to fire Gregory Onyango Obonyo on October 27.

According to a story that was published by Nation Africa, the court turned down Gregory’s appeal to be awarded KSh 5.6 million for “helping the student because she had not eaten the whole day.”

According to the court document, Onyango testified that because the student had not eaten, he asked his nephew, who lived with him, to provide the student with some food.

The judge said that the head of the school, Onyango, should have set an example for others to follow in order to make sure that the standards of conduct and ethics of the employer were met.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has told the court that its investigations, which included talking to a number of different people, have led it to the conclusion that the girl spent a lot of time at the principal’s house.

The TSC arrived at the conclusion, based on its cross-examinations, that the principal had a case to answer. As a result, the principal was interdicted.

Onyango, who was unhappy with the situation, petitioned the TSC’s review committee, and he was given a hearing.

The court has heard that he told the committee that he knew about the code of conduct that says how far apart students and teachers can be to make sure there aren’t any sexual offenses.

According to the transcript of the court case, it was said at some point that Onyango had sexual relations with the student. The judge, on the other hand, said that the dismissal depended entirely on whether or not the teacher let the student into his home.
