China to take over Tema Harbour, Kotoka International Airport in addition to ECG – Captain Smart Reveals

Captain Smart has reiterated his prior claim that China will seize control of two more state institutions, notably the Tema Port and the Kotoka International Airport.

This claim follows the International Monetary Fund (IMF) report’s confirmation of Mr. Smart’s earlier claims. Mr. Smart had warned in March 2023 that if Ghana did not pay back its loans to Beijing, China may seize control of four governmental institutions.

Ghana obtained a $3 billion loan facility from the IMF around three months later. Four of Ghana’s Chinese loans were utilized as collateral, according to the IMF assessment that was released in conjunction with the rescue package. The research claims that if the Ghanaian government does not pay its debts, the nation might lose out on money from its natural riches and energy sales.

On May 25, 2023, Captain Smart restated his prediction that China will take sovereignty of the Kotoka International Airport, Tema Harbour, as well as the country’s natural riches and the Ghanaian Electricity Company. He was speaking on Maakye (ECG). Ghana owes China a total of $1.9 billion at the present time, with $619 million of that sum collateralized.

The South China Morning Post had earlier reported in 2022 that Uganda had suffered comparable repercussions as a result of the borrowing terms from China. According to the terms of the loan arrangement for the expansion of the international airport in Entebbe, Uganda had to pay off its debt before funding public services.

Captain Smart now claims that the Tema Port and the Kotoka International Airport will be the next targets, despite previously mentioning the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport, the Electricity Company of Ghana, and the Tema Harbour as potential assets Ghana could lose. He thinks that since China no longer sees the GBC as profitable, a takeover is not a top priority.

Mr. Smart has reaffirmed his prior claim that China will seize control of the Tema Port and the Kotoka International Airport, two more state facilities. According to the IMF study, it is possible for public assets to be taken over, and Mr. Smart is sticking to his guns because of this knowledge. Ghana’s predicament is similar to other occasions where nations like Uganda suffered the consequences of not adhering to China’s loan repayment criteria.
