Who is Brian Hoyer

Axel Edward Brian Hoyer (born October 13, 1985) is an American football quarterback for the National Football League’s New England Patriots (NFL). He has started for eight different teams since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2009, the second-most in league history. Hoyer also spent six non-consecutive seasons as a backup quarterback for the Patriots, where he was a member of the team that won Super Bowl LIII.

Hoyer attended Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio, where he played football and baseball for the Wildcats. He was born in Lakewood, Ohio, and raised in North Olmsted. Hoyer played pitcher, infielder, and outfielder for the varsity baseball team. As a sophomore in 2002, he had an 8-1 record with a 1.99 ERA. He won the 2002 Ohio Division I State Championship game, allowing only two earned runs in six innings of work.

Hoyer redshirted at Michigan State in 2004, earning Scout Team Offensive Player of the Week honors twice. He appeared in five games in 2005, completing 15-of-23 passes (.652) for 167 yards and two touchdowns. He and Drew Stanton combined to throw seven touchdown passes against Illinois, tying the Big Ten single-game record. He appeared in eight games in 2006, completing 82-of-144 passes for 863 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions. DraftScout.com ranked Hoyer as the ninth best quarterback in the 2009 NFL Draft.
