Alledged 14 years old girl rumored to have married 42 years old man speaks says reports are not true.
The tale about Raminatu, a 14 years old girl who was married off to a 42-year-old man, is debunked; the true lady, Hajara, speaks up.
In the early mornings of April 4, 2021, a story about a lady with her pictures circulated through social media sites, drawing attention to child marriage, which is illegal in Ghana under the 1992 constitution.
According to the reports she married Alhaji Faruk, 42, in an Islamic traditional marriage (awure) in Kumasi.
The young lady whose photographs were included in the reports has dismissed the rumors around her.
She appears to be over the age of 20, married, but not to Alhaji Faruk, and that her husband is not 42 years old.
”I am the lady you posted today with a false identity. I’m not Raminatu, I’m called Hajara. I completed Islamic Senior High School 2019 and a student at the University of Education, Winneba. ”I got married last two month and I’m over 20 years old. My husband is not called Alhaji Faruk. My husband is not 42. He is young, handsome and responsible. He is also schooling at Wise University in Jordan.”
