Meet Maame Esi Swatson, Ghana’s youngest female commercial pilot.
Maame Esi Swatson, a graduate of the University of Ghana Basic School, Ghana Christian High School, and Mach1 Aviation Academy, was born on February 23, 1997, and at the age of 21, she became Ghana’s youngest female commercial pilot.
Audrey is now a First Officer with Passion Air, a Ghanaian airline, and she flies the Dash8 Q-400.
She began her flying training at the Mach1 Aviation Academy in South Africa when she was 18 years old, after finishing her secondary education. She took her first solo flight at the age of 19 with Mach1 Aviation Academy and went on to get her Commercial Pilot Licence at the age of 21.
Miss Swatson’s career, like any other, had its ups and downs.
“With the exception of God and my parents, I owe all I am and aim to be to education.” I would not be able to go on to a more positive position in my life without the education I have had throughout my life, the people I have made and networked with, and the amazing instructors who have been there for me since day one.
I would not have had the opportunity to become a pilot or to show other youngsters that they can do anything they set their minds to. “Education has satisfied me and made me a more cheerful person,” she said in a media interview.
She is presently the CEO of Excel Aviation, with the goal of assisting young women like herself in achieving their goals.
The Ministry of Aviation honored Audrey Esi Swatson. International Women in Aviation supported her attendance at a conference in the United States in 2016 as the first African female pilot. She was nominated for and received the Young Person of the Year award at The Future Awards Africa Prize (Ghana)
