“I did nothing wrong marrying a 13 years old girl”- former governor of Sani Yerima
Sani Yerima, former governor of Zamfara and Presidential hopeful, has strongly defended his decision to marry a 13-year-old girl during a recent appearance on Channels TV on Tuesday, May 10.
The marriage, which took place in 2009, drew widespread criticism, although the lawmaker says he did not break any laws.
“I would have been tried in court if I had done anything wrong.” NAPTIP wanted to prosecute the case, but they decided not to because I had done nothing wrong.”
“There is no rule in Nigeria that dictates when and how you get married,” he continued. Muslims follow Sharia, and I’m not sure what Christians believe.”
From May 1999 to May 2007, Ahmed Rufai Sani Yerima served as Governor of Zamfara State in Nigeria, as well as Senator for Zamfara West and Deputy Minority Leader in the Senate. He belongs to the APC (All Progressives Congress).
