4-Year-Old Boy Files an Official Complaint After School Authorities Used His Photo On Banner Without His Permission

MA Sam Welbeck Ed, an academic director with over 20 years of experience in Egypt, shared a story about a young boy in a school he oversees that sparked outrage on social media.

For the purposes of sharing his story, a four-year-old boy named Ali filed an official complaint about the use of his photo for a school banner without his permission.

The academic director admits:

“He was right. I commissioned those posters with marketing; I hadn’t asked his express permission, and now it was causing him embarrassment,” Sam admitted after Ali said his classmates kept talking about the banner with his photo.

According to the academic director, he took the time to explain to the irate young boy the importance of using real images of students for the campaign in question, as well as the fact that his parents approved of it, but the young boy refused to listen.

“I explained that I had permission from his parents through our use of media policy, but that I should have spoken to him first. I promised to make amendments to the policy for the coming year,” he said.

In the end, Sam decided to remove the photo, but the young man changed his mind near the end of the conversation.

As we approached his classroom door, he turned to me suddenly…smiled and he said, it’s okay you can keep it. I was surprised (and relieved).
