A 37-year-old man has been arrested and appeared before the Accra Circuit Court for using Samira Bawumia, the wife of Vice President Baumia, and 3 ministers names for a scam.
the man identified as Mohammed Aminu Bonkanuover scammed over GHC1.4 million from a retired civil engineer using the names of Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the Foreign Affairs Minister, and Sarah Adwoa Safo, the Minister for Public Procurement and Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya as his associates.
from reports, the 37-year-old man scammed the engineer with the excuse of facilitating his appointment as the Director-General of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
according to reports, Mohammed claimed to give the money to Yaw Osafo Maafo, Senior Minister, to acquire a license for the complainant who is also former GPHA boss to operate an oil marketing company.
it appears that; “In his quest to defraud complainant, the accused person mentioned government officials including Samira Bawumia, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey who is the Foreign Affairs, and Regional Integration Minister, and Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya as his associates,” the Prosecution said.
The accused is said to have demanded and received a total cash sum of $132,000 equivalent of GHC726,000, £5,000 equivalent to GHC31,150, and GHC500,000.
