When she was sentenced to six years and two months in prison, a court slammed a ‘beyond disgusting’ instructor who had outdoor sex with her 15-year-old student.
a mother of three who is married and has three children Kandice Barber, 35, led the minor to a farm, kissed him on the neck next to a bale of hay, and whispered, ‘What do you want to do now?’ before engaging in complete intercourse with him.
The Princes Risborough School supplies teacher from Wendover, Buckinghamshire, also gave him nude photos of herself and vowed to ‘let him down’ if he revealed their secret sex experiences to senior staff.
Barber’s lawyer argued that at 5ft tall, she was too short to have had sex standing up with the student, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.
The complainant also said she was ‘too exhausted’ to have slept with the student, who said the ordeal had a negative effect on his GCSE results today.
Barber had ‘acted in utter contempt of confidence’ and had ‘advantaged a boy in your custody and groomed him for your own personal pleasure,’ according to Recorder Bal Dhaliwal, who sentenced her today at Aylesbury Crown Court.
‘The victim was a 15-year-old boy in his final year of high school,’ she told the teacher. You had influence and power over him. You drew him in with your praises, and you forced him to have sex with you when he was a student in your care.
‘If he mentioned it, you tried to drag him down with you.’ Because of your role, you always had power over him, but using threats is despicable.’
Barber had sent him a picture of herself on a bed surrounded by sex toys and asked him, “Do you like boobs or bum?” Barber had bombarded the then 15-year-old student with tweets, including one in which she asked, “Do you like boobs or bum?”
However, she was discovered when a topless photo she gave her victim became so widely distributed that it was passed on to their school’s headteacher.
‘Non-sexual contact from the moment you reached Snapchat to his phone to gain his confidence to use the trust to schedule a meeting where sexual conduct took place,’ the judge said.
‘There was a considerable amount of preparation,’ says the author, citing Google searches for ‘healthy secluded places’ and a ‘Holiday Inn Wycombe.’
‘You did everything you could to make sure he didn’t report the matter, and you made sure it was dealt with by telling him to delete it.’
‘You are the mother of three daughters, ages ten, fourteen, and sixteen, as well as the stepmother of two others and the wife of a very loving husband. Depriving you of your freedom would have disastrous consequences for your children and families.’
Prosecutor David Povall summarized a quote from the survivor, who said the events and going through two trials caused him discomfort and anxiety.
‘He was at school, and it was through his attendance at school that he came into contact with this suspect, who was operating in a place of confidence there,’ he added.
‘He believes that, in part, because of the effect of these events on him, his GCSE results were not as good as they should have been.’
‘As a result of his below-average GCSE grades, he was forced to abandon his decent school to enroll in a sixth-form college where none of his peers were.
‘In brief, he claims that the complainant… who was meant to assist students in making good decisions actually assisted him in making all the bad ones.’
Barber was cleared of causing or encouraging a child to participate in sexual activity while in a position of trust after being accused in September of giving the boy topless pictures of herself on Snapchat between September and October 2018, but not of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity while in a position of trust.
One count of inducing or inciting a child under the age of 16 to engage in sexual intercourse was found against the supply instructor. She was acquitted on two further counts of the same crime.
