21-year-old Kidnapper arrested for slaughtering 13-year-old girl and demanded N1m ransom from family in Kano (photos)
Auwal Abdulrasheed, a 21-year-old kidnapper apprehended by the Kano State Police Command, described how he kidnapped, murdered, and demanded N1 million in ransom from the family of a 13-year-old girl hawker before burying her body in a shallow grave.
The suspect was apprehended on January 9, according to the command’s spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the event in a statement on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.
According to the PPRO, the case of a missing 13-year-old girl called Zuwaira was reported to the police on July 21, 2021.
“On the 21st of June, 2021, a report was received from a resident of Tofa Town, Tofa LGA, Kano State, that his daughter, Zuwaira 13 years old, was kidnapped and a ransom of One Million Naira (N1,000,000.00) was demanded, which was later settled at Four Hundred Thousand Naira” (N400,000.00). “While negotiating for the ransom, the victim’s corpse was located in an unfinished structure, killed, and buried in a shallow grave,” according to the statement.
“Upon receiving the dreadful information, the scene was visited, the corpse was unearthed, inspected, and declared dead by a Medical Doctor, and the body was returned to the families for burial according to Islamic rituals.”
“The Kano State Command Commissioner of Police, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, promptly raised and directed a team of Operation Puff Adder led by SP Shehu Dahiru to arrest the perpetrators.”
“The Puff Adder squad sprung into action. Sustained attempts and follow-up led to the arrest of one Auwalu Abdulrashid, alias Lauje 21 years old, of Tofa Town, Tofa LGA, Kano State on the 09/01/2022, 202 days after the occurrence, at Dan marke village, Dambatta LGA, Kano State.
“On preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed that he kidnapped the victim, deceived and took her to an unfinished building located at Tofa Town, Tofa LGA, Kano State, where he strangled her with her Hijab, slaughtered her throat, and buried her in a shallow grave, and then demanded a ransom of One Million Naira (N1,000,000.00) and later settled at Four Hundred Thousand Naira (N400,000.00
“The suspect also admitted that on 07/06/2021, he kidnapped the victim’s younger brother, one Muttaka 3 years old, at Tofa Town, Tofa LGA, Kano State, demanded a ransom of Two Million Naira (N2,000,000.00), later settled and collected One Hundred Thousand Naira (100,000.00), and abandoned the child at Dawanau Special Primary School, Dawakin Tofa LGA, Kano
The spokesman then stated that the police investigations into the matter have been completed and that the suspect would be charged and prosecuted soon.
