A 20-year-old man was sentenced to fifteen years in hard labor by a Sogakope Circuit Court presided over by His Lordship Isaac Addo.
Eyram Botwe, the convict, was brought before the court on the allegation of attempting to commit robbery on Tuesday, January 25th, 2022.
He was part of a robbery gang that pepper-sprayed a motor rider in an effort to steal his Haojue motorcycle at Agorve near Akatsi.
When the convict appeared in court, he pled guilty to the offense and was found guilty on his own plea.
His Lordship Isaac Addo, who delivered the verdict, stated that he took into account the fact that the accused was a first-time offender, which resulted in his fifteen-year sentence.
When two additional suspects apprehended in connection with the heist came before the same Court, they were also remanded into police custody.
When they appeared in court on Thursday, January 27, 2022, the couple pled not guilty to the charges of conspiracy and robbery.
They are scheduled to appear in court again on February 10, 2022.
According to a police statement published by the Volta Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service,
Robbery of motorbikes, mostly Okada, has been rather prevalent in recent years, and the command is convinced that recent arrests by the Akatsi District and consequent punishment will stem the tide.”
